How to keep a fresh face all day
Our friend Marla Malcolm Beck, founder and CEO of the spa and apothecary chain Bluemercury, swears by this look-alive triumvirate for your morning routine: a hydrating serum (basically, a quick-penetrating moisturizer), followed by primer and foundation. The primer, she says, is the key. Like a primer for paint, it “puts a barrier between skin and foundation so that foundation doesn’t seep into skin, but stays fresh all day.” Her favorite: Laura Mercier. At midday, Beck extols the pick-me-up power of a little cream blush. “You don’t even need a brush, just put it on the apples of your cheeks with your fingers and it brightens up the face quickly.” Product pick: NARS cream blush in South Beach, which is peach with a little bronze. Pretty, easy!
